Arrival in Luceti

[Action/Written - Open]

One moment Jane is sitting at the kitchen table sipping her coffee and leafing through her notebook, and the next she's standing in the middle of a forest clearing. Instead of her flannel pajamas she is clad in a simple white dress and her feet are bare. Her notebook, the summary of her life's work, is nowhere to be seen. At her feet, though, is a notebook-looking thing with her name on the front. She picks it up and opens it, then sits down where she is to read.

Later, still in the woods but feeling more acclimated to where she is and the new wings on her back, she decides to give the communications function a try. She writes a short message that reads

"Hello, my name is Jane Foster, and I've just arrived. I am in the forest and I can't tell which direction to go to get out. Could someone help me out? Thanks!"

[The area doesn't look instantly familiar, but it's good to see Jane's face again. Now, if only things were normal, they could actually meet properly.]

Yes, I can see you now. Do you hear anything nearby? Running water?

[Jane recognizes the face at the other end and smiles. Just when she needed a hero, one shows up.]

Oh my god, Captain America? I can't believe it's you! Um, hold on, let me listen for a second.

Now that you mention it, I do hear a stream maybe. Should I go in that direction?

[Capta-- Oh bother. The face on the other end of the video registers surprise for a moment, then a sigh.]

Actually, it isn't him. Not really. I'll explain further when your situation is under control.

First, head to the stream. Depending on your location I can tell you which way to follow it.

Okay.

[Jane walked carefully, being sure to pan the journal around so that Captain could see where she was and where she was going. Though he claimed he wasn't him, which could mean anything. Jane decided she had no choice but to trust him, whoever he was. She walked carefully, her bare feet sensitive to every fallen pine cone and rock. The Captain-appearing person on the other end might occasionally hear an 'ow' or 'dammit' muttered under Jane's breath.]

I see it now. Which way should I go?

[Nothing seemed familiar until just a few meters from the river. She recognized that area - had just been jogging through there a few hours prior.

Grabbing a jacket and a pair of shoes, "Steve" headed out the door at a brisk jog which was closer to a full run for most people.]

Hold still. I can be there in ten.

Okay. I'll be right here.

[Jane did as he said and stayed put. She was incredibly relieved that someone was on the way. The dress she was wearing provided little warmth and her feet were cold and already quite dirty. The scenery was beautiful, however, and she tried to focus on that while she waited.]

[And about ten minutes later, "Steve" comes jogging up. She isn't sure if the shoes will fit, but it'll be better than not wearing anything at all. It isn't hard to find Jane. It will be hard to explain this current state though.

It's nice to be able to jog up without being out of breath though.]

I brought you something. Thought it might be cold out.

[The jacket and shoes are held out.]

I do hope they fit.

[The relief Jane feels at seeing the clothes will be obvious on her face, and in how quickly she snatches them up and puts them on.]

You read my mind! I thought that serum just made you super strong. Are you sure you're not psychic too?

[The shoes were a little big, but they were close enough to her size that she didn't care. Her toes immediately started to warm up. She tucked her journal under her arm and looked up at Steve with a smile.]

Thank you so much.

[Technically it made Steve strong, fast, more adept at healing and enhanced whatever mental strengths he had, but Peggy didn't feel like correcting Jane. She simply shook her head - or rather, Steve's head - and waited until Jane was ready.]

It really isn't anything. You're not hurt anywhere else, are you?

No, I'm not hurt. Not physically, anyway. I'm still trying to wrap my mind around all this, though.

[Jane looked up at Steve, who like Thor was significantly taller than her. He looked just like he had on television, only without the uniform. Very all-American.]

So this notebook thing said I could find clothes in the village. Do you mind going there with me?

It can take some time. [A lot of time since even after all her time in Luceti, today has really thrown her for a loop.] But you're an intelligent woman and I'm sure you'll adjust.

I don't mind accompanying you at all. Do you-- [This is so weird to her.] Would it be better if I carried you there? I'm sure your feet are aching from walking without shoes, even with the loans.

[Jane nodded in agreement, then paused. Jane wasn't exactly famous, so it was odd that he knew she was intelligent. He could just be assuming, but she needed to make sure.]

Do you know me?

[As for being carried, well, it was a good idea. The thought of it made Jane a little uncomfortable, if she were to be honest with herself, but curiosity won her over. First she'd flown with Thor, now she was going to be carried by Captain America.]

I think I'd like to be carried, thanks. At least until we get into the village and the ground is more even.

[In a shift like that, riding on her back would be uncomfortable more than likely. The easiest method then would be the infamous "princess" carry, but she wasn't sure if Jane would agree to that. She considered for a moment and then held out a hand. Princess carry was really the best way to do it.]

Arms around my neck, if you would. And I knew you - you've been here once before, not that it matters since it's apparent that you don't remember. Normally I also don't look like this, as I said before. Hopefully I'll be able to greet you properly some day.

[Jane did as he asked and tried not to grin like an idiot when he picked her up. She didn't know what it was about being picked up by a big, strong guy that made her giddy inside like a little girl but there was no denying that it did.]

No, I don't remember. The last thing I remember before waking up here was being in my flat in London, waiting on Thor to come back from Asgard.

And what do you normally look like? You don't appear to have anything wrong with you.

[American girl in London? Then she wasn't from the same time as Thor. Good to know. With a nod, she broke into a jog, heading back to the village.]

You'll likely see Thor soon enough. He's here somewhere.

As for me? You wouldn't recognize me, but normally I'm not in Captain America's body. This is a temporary issue caused by being here.

[There was an advantage to the strength and speed though, that was nice. Peggy let that information sink in a bit before continuing.]

My name is Peggy Carter.

[It took Jane a minute to wrap her mind around that one. Body swapping? It sounded like a bad movie.]

So are you stuck this way forever? That has to be really weird.

[It felt that way, too, Jane. Peggy kept jogging onward, frowning a little.]

I hope not. I'm certain Steve would like his body back eventually.

And yes, it is weird, but I'm trying not to think about it.

So... would you prefer I call you Peggy, or Steve?

[Jane wasn't sure she wouldn't slip up and call her Steve, but she would try.]

How long has this been going on?

[Peggy actually sighed this time.]

Peggy, I suppose, unless someone who doesn't know is around. He and I aren't advertising what has happened to us since it only just began today.

[And BOY IS IT AWKWARD.]

I think I can manage that. And I hope you get back into your own body soon.

[Jane has all sorts of questions about what it's like to be a man instead of a woman, but they all feel inappropriate to ask of someone she just met. She's damn curious though.]

So... what's it like? I mean, is it easier than being a woman?

As do I. And no, it isn't easier for someone who is used to being a woman all her life.

[She can understand the curiosity, but they're approaching the village now and it isn't exactly something she wants to discuss. Peggy jogs through the town until they make it to a shop, when she pauses in front of it.]

It isn't much here, but everything is free at least.

Well, that's something, isn't it? Thanks for carrying me here.

[She eases herself out of PeggySteve's arms and back down to the ground.]

I'll wash these clothes and get them back to you, I promise.

You needn't worry. Just bring them to the Flame Building, Flat 8 and I'll take care of them then.

Perhaps you'll be able to actually meet Steve, seeing how you seemed rather taken by the possibility.

Flame building, flat 8. Got it. And I would like to meet him. Any time I get a chance to meet one of Thor's friends I definitely take it.

[Jane stands awkwardly for a moment, a crooked grin on her face. The prospect of Peggy leaving her on her own is one that Jane finds she doesn't want to think about.]

Do you mind hanging around? Maybe you could tell me more about this place while I look for clothes?

[She nodded and was about to leave, when Jane asked her that question. She supposed it wouldn't be odd for her to accompany the woman - or it wouldn't have been if she was actually herself.

Still, she couldn't just leave Jane on her own.

After a moment of deliberation, she nodded.]
