One moment Jane is sitting at the kitchen table sipping her coffee and leafing through her notebook, and the next she's standing in the middle of a forest clearing. Instead of her flannel pajamas she is clad in a simple white dress and her feet are bare.  Her notebook, the summary of her life's work, is nowhere to be seen. At her feet, though, is a notebook-looking thing with her name on the front. She picks it up and opens it, then sits down where she is to read.

Later, still in the woods but feeling more acclimated to where she is and the new wings on her back, she decides to give the communications function a try. She writes a short message that reads

"Hello, my name is Jane Foster, and I've just arrived. I am in the forest and I can't tell which direction to go to get out. Could someone help me out? Thanks!"

Hi, Peggy. I'm Jane. I already said that in my message, didn't I?

[Jane makes a face that conveys her embarrassment at having forgotten that detail so quickly.]

So what is the deal with these wings. Do they really not do anything?

[He smiles and nods.] It's nice to meet you, Jane. [Again. But the fact that she's been here before is another one of those things Steve doesn't want to let slip too soon.]

No, they're pretty useless. But don't mess with them or try to pull them off. It'll kill you. [Yeah, way to ease her in there.]

Well, I'm sure you have a lot of questions. Why don't start heading for the village while I try to answer them?

What a waste. It would be so cool to be able to fly.

[She nodded at her suggestion and started walking in the direction Peggy had come from, her pace rather as she got used to the new shoes.]

The journal thing explained a lot, actually. For it being possibly the strangest situation I'll ever find myself in, it seems pretty organized. I can really do whatever I want here? So if I wanted to set up a lab and do the same work I was doing at home, I can do that?

I suppose that depends on whether the Malnosso would find your work threatening in some way. If not, then you probably can. As long as if doesn't involve leaving the village, you're free to do what you want.

Hm, they probably would, considering it overlaps with how they bring people here in the first place. It seems like they've mastered what I've been trying to figure out for years.

I guess I can stick with just making observations and trying to learn about this place. Do you know if there's somewhere in the village I could get a telescope?

Not off-hand, no. But you could probably ask around. I'm sure someone in the village probably has one they would be willing to let you borrow if nothing else.

[The village comes into view and Jane drinks in the sight. It occurs to her that this will be her new home, possibly for the rest of her life. As places to be stuck go, she decided it could be worse.]

So how many people are here?

Well, I don't know an exact number. But there are well over a hundred people living here.

Really? That's almost as many as in Puente Antiguo.

[Jane rather liked small towns. It felt familiar and that was comforting.]

And everyone has one of these journals, so we can all talk to one another, right?
